About Zipline

Do you want to change the world? Zipline is on a mission to transform the way goods move. Our aim is to solve the world’s most urgent and complex access challenges by building, manufacturing and operating the first instant delivery and logistics system that serves all humans equally, wherever they are. From powering Rwanda’s national blood delivery network and Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution, to providing on-demand home delivery for Walmart, to enabling healthcare providers to bring care directly to U.S. homes, we are transforming the way things move for businesses, governments and consumers. The technology is complex but the idea is simple: a teleportation service that delivers what you need, when you need it. Through our technology that includes robotics and autonomy, we are decarbonizing delivery, decreasing road congestion, and reducing fossil fuel consumption and air pollution, while providing equitable access to billions of people and building a more resilient global supply chain.
Join Zipline and help us to make good on our promise to build an equitable and more resilient global supply chain for billions of people.

About You and The Role

Zipline’s software team delivers safety-critical software at lightning speed. A small team of software engineers builds the tooling that enables development to run like a well-oiled machine. In this role, you will work closely with software engineers across all areas of the org: autonomy, firmware, flight software, avionics, and simulation. You will work on leveling up our build system, enabling teams to gather more insight from our CI/CD pipeline, and keeping development flowing. At times your job will be high-level, identifying strategic investments or deciding which new tools to use. At times your job will require you to be deep in our codebase, debugging and improving it. And at times, your job will be customer-centric, pairing with other software engineers on critical infrastructure, designing new pipelines, and migrating codebases to new platforms.

What You'll Do

  • Own our Bazel build system
  • Improve the speed and reliability of our CI/CD pipeline
  • Own one-off tools, for example custom workflows or a build insights dashboard
  • Manage compute clusters
  • Build tooling to support engineering test flights
  • Improve the code review process
  • Create reusable libraries and refactor code to improve the team’s overall productivity
  • Build bots and automation that delight the team

What You'll Bring

  • 12+ years of experience in a software development role at engineering-led companies
  • Expertise in developer tooling, modern tools and best practices
  • A generalist mindset, with excitement to own problems end-to-end
  • A customer-centric mindset, with an ability to quickly embed with other engineers and regularly pair program
  • Strong, defensible opinions on what makes an excellent software development experience
