Do you want to change the world? Zipline is on a mission to transform the way goods move. Our aim is to solve the world’s most urgent and complex access challenges by building, manufacturing and operating the first instant delivery and logistics system that serves all humans equally, wherever they are. From powering Rwanda’s national blood delivery network and Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution, to providing on-demand home delivery for Walmart, to enabling healthcare providers to bring care directly to U.S. homes, we are transforming the way things move for businesses, governments and consumers.
The technology is complex but the idea is simple: a teleportation service that delivers what you need, when you need it. Through our technology that includes robotics and autonomy, we are decarbonizing delivery, decreasing road congestion, and reducing fossil fuel consumption and air pollution, while providing equitable access to billions of people and building a more resilient global supply chain.
Join Zipline and help us to make good on our promise to build an equitable and more resilient global supply chain for billions of people.
ABOUT YOU AND THE ROLE
As an experienced Reliability Engineer in hardware systems, you will be responsible to analyze, predict, demonstrate, and monitor the statistical reliability of perception systems onboard Zipline aircraft. At Zipline, we're using radio, acoustic, and visual systems to avoid obstacles in the air and on the ground, with more than a half million completed flights across Africa, the U.S. and Japan. Our customers depend on the ability of our aircraft to deliver on-time by making real-time decisions to adapt to changing air and ground obstacles. You will make sure that our aircraft function in all operating conditions, flying through rain, wind, heat, snow and ice around the globe, and develop a complete understanding of the life of the aircraft's perception systems and their capabilities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Responsible for achieving the availability requirement and reliability goals of onboard perception systems (visual and other modalities) from concept to field.
- Bridge electrical/mechanical/software disciplines by facilitating design risk assessment techniques (FMEA/FMECA/HARA, etc.) at the critical moment.
- Develop and maintain reliability-life models of perception systems (visual and other modalities) towards the availability/reliability objectives.
- Develop hardware validation test plans with a physics-of-failure approach to demonstrate lifetime functionality, durability, and environmental objectives.
- Research, develop, and author hardware-specific test specifications which will be approved by regulators and carried out in-house or at outside vendors.
- Thrive in leading multiple problem-solving efforts, contribute, and validate solutions for issues discovered through testing or in the field.
- Calculate reliability performance of the system throughout development and its deployment in the real world. Implement lessons learned into the process.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- A strong background in the physics-of-failure in electromechanical systems with experience in vision, compute, and other sensory hardware.
- Verbal and written technical communication that is concise and factual.
- Experience in data analysis including, and data-driven decision making.
- Makes decisions from analysis of large multivariate datasets, including probability and statistical methods, using programming.
- Extracts the most value from limited time and resources.
- A lifelong curiosity around how things work and break.
- A keen interest in the use of technology for the betterment of all people.
