About You and The Role
Zipline is looking for a combined NPI Material Planner and Operations Program Manager. In the NPI Material Planner role, you’ll own the creation and oversight of left-to-right clear to build schedules to support validation builds. As an OPM, you will oversee manufacturing operations (production, quality, material planning) cost, schedule and deliverables during New Product Introduction (NPI), Ramp and Sustaining Phases as well as organize and oversee manufacturing (in house or Contract Manufacturer) transition from validation to ramp and production states.
This is an in-person role, based out of our HQ in South San Francisco.
What You'll Do
- NPI Material Planner
- Validation Phases:
- Establishes, monitors and ensures adherence to left-to right material drive plan to achieve Clear to Build by the date and in the quantities established by corporate Program Management.
- Identifies risks to requested schedule and quantities identified through monitoring of left-to-right material drive plan.
- Validation Phases:
- Operations Program Manager
- Engineering Validation Phase:
- Monitors cost deliverables for EV build. Integrates and drives achievement of cost targets across NPI and material planning.
- Establishes should cost for materials, labor and transportation associated with EV build quantities requested from Enterprise Program Management.
- Calculates actual cost for build using actual time, materials used.
- Production Validation Phase:
- Monitors cost deliverables for DV build. Integrate and drive achievement of cost targets across manufacturing, NPI, supplier quality and material planning.
- Establishes should cost for materials, labor and transportation associated with DV build quantities requested from Enterprise Program Management.
- Calculates actual cost for build using actual time, materials used.
- Entry to Ramp:
- Oversees and executes the Safe Launch Process schedule and deliverables. Integrate and drive achievement of schedule and operational goals across manufacturing, material planning, manufacturing quality, supplier quality, logistics, field support engineering and product lifecycle management.
- Drives Supply Chain readiness and handover from DV to ramp and production phases.
- Organize and oversee factory (in house or Contract Manufacturer) transition from validation to ramp and production states.
- Monitors excess / obsolescence planning:
- Ensures that runout, cut in dates are established by Material Planning.
- Ensures that Material Planning is minimizing obsolescence costs.
- Ensures that Material Planning and Material Conveyance have segregated all obsolete inventory prior to new baseline configuration cut-in.
- Ensures that Manufacturing is prepared to begin production of new baseline configurations on broadcast cut-in dates.
- Ramp Phase.
- Establishes ramp schedule and operational goals. Integrates and drives achievement of schedule and operational goals across manufacturing, material planning, manufacturing quality, supplier quality and logistics.
- Establishes the production ramp schedule with quantities / rate required at specific points in the production ramp.
- Defines operational success metrics for ramp: Component and full assembly build rates, manufacturing yield / fallout rates, IQC yield / fallout rates.
- Monitors production yields required at specific points in the production ramp.
- Monitors IQC yields required at specific points during the production ramp.
- Establishes should cost for materials, labor and transportation associated with specific points in the production ramp.
- Calculates actual cost for build using actual time, materials used during ramp.
- Provides production should vs. actual cost reporting during ramp.
- (Establishes should cost for materials passing through IQC.
- Calculates actual cost for materials passing through IQC.
- Provides IQC should vs. actual cost reporting during ramp.
- Mass Production Phase.
- Integrates and drives achievement of operational goals across manufacturing, material planning, manufacturing quality, supplier quality and logistics.
- Defines operational success metrics for ramp: Component and full assembly build rates, manufacturing yield / fallout rates, IQC yield / fallout rates.
- Monitors mass production yields.
- Establishes and maintains cost master for production materials, labor and transportation associated with each production month.
- Calculates actual cost for build using actual time, materials used during each production month.
- Provides production should vs. actual cost reporting during ramp.
- Establishes should cost for materials passing through IQC.
- Provides Material Review Board governance in accordance with internal Standard Operating Procedures.
- Engineering Validation Phase:
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of 3 years experience in New Product Introduction, Material Planning or Operations Program Management roles.
- Proficient in advanced MS Excel features: Queries, Power Pivots.
- Experience with data visualization tools: Google Data Studio, Tableau, Mode.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable communicating with Senior Management.
- Ability to travel on a monthly basis to Contract Manufacturer sites, at US or foreign locations.
