Vangst Now Seeking Full Time Cost Accountant

About the Opportunity

Vangst is partnering with a rapidly growing manufacturing company in the Scottsdale/Phoenix, Arizona area to identify an experienced Cost Accountant for their accounting team. This individual will play a key role in supporting financial reporting, inventory accounting, cost analysis, and operational decision-making across the organization.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in manufacturing cost accounting and enjoys collaborating with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and Production teams to improve profitability, reporting accuracy, and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cost accounting functions including standard costing, product costing, and Bill of Materials (BOM) maintenance.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), gross margins, and production variances.
  • Monitor inventory valuation, inventory reconciliations, and cycle count adjustments.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger support.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Investigate manufacturing variances, inventory discrepancies, and operational cost drivers.
  • Develop financial reporting and variance analysis for leadership.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, annual audits, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting controls.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • GAAP
  • Inventory accounting
  • Standard costing
  • Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
  • Manufacturing cost variances
  • Financial close processes
  • Experience using ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret large data sets.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • 3–6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience supporting ERP implementations or multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Strong preference for candidates with cost accounting experience in:
  • Manufacturing
  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
  • Food & Beverage Manufacturing
  • Cannabis Manufacturing
  • Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences Manufacturing
  • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Other high-volume production environments
