Director of Finance (FP&A Focused)
Vangst
Accounting & Finance
New York, USA
Director of Finance (FP&A Focus)
About the Role
Vangst is partnering with a rapidly growing, New York-based organization to identify a Director of Finance who will take full ownership of the company’s financial function. This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact, build-from-scratch role where you’ll drive financial strategy, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
This is a hands-on position—ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building systems, and partnering closely with leadership. While the title is Director-level, this role is also well-suited for a strong FP&A professional ready to step up and grow into a leadership position over time, with a potential path toward a future CFO role.
What You’ll Do
Own the Finance Function
- Lead all FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Build and maintain scalable financial models (revenue, cost projections, unit economics)
- Partner directly with leadership to guide strategic decisions and growth planning
- Work alongside an existing bookkeeper to ensure accurate financial reporting and operations
Drive Financial Strategy & Insights
- Analyze cost structures, margins, and operational performance
- Develop unit economics and pricing models across product lines
- Provide clear, actionable insights to support rapid growth and new client onboarding
- Identify risks, opportunities, and areas for operational efficiency
Build Systems & Processes
- Help design and implement financial systems and reporting infrastructure
- Work within and optimize tools like QuickBooks and Google Sheets
- Support future ERP implementation and process improvements
- Establish scalable processes as the business grows
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in FP&A, finance, or analytical roles
- Experience in manufacturing, production, CPG, or cannabis strongly preferred
- Strong financial modeling skills (Excel or Google Sheets)
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and building from the ground up
Nice to Have
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory, or COGS analysis
- Exposure to ERP systems or system implementation
- Familiarity with the cannabis industry and its financial nuances
Why This Role
- High ownership: You will be the finance function
- Growth opportunity: Clear path to expand into a CFO-level role
- Build from scratch: Shape systems, processes, and strategy
- Flexibility: Primarily remote with occasional onsite collaboration
- High visibility: Direct access to leadership and decision-making
