Lead Technical Designer - Apparel
Department: Product Development / Technical Design
Reports To: Director of Product Development & Production
Location: Boston, MA

Based in Boston, this is a hybrid position that requires 2-3 days in the office.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lead Technical Designer to lead the technical development of Running Apparel. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product fit, functionality, and quality from initial concept through production. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in the running category as it pertains to garment construction, pattern making, and manufacturing processes, along with the ability to manage multiple product seasons and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all proto fittings, from development through production approval.
  • Create and communicate clear, concise fit comments with detailed pattern correction guidance.
  • Measure and evaluate samples for fit, construction, and spec accuracy.
  • Manage and maintain measurement charts, ensuring consistency and accuracy across product categories.
  • Develop and evolve block specs and "How to Measure" guides, including clear Points of Measurement (POMs) for global partners.
  • Ensure garments meet performance expectations for fit, mobility, durability, and construction integrity.
  • Possess a strong understanding of garment manufacturing processes, including construction techniques and factory capabilities.
  • Work closely with Design, Product Development, and Merchandising to uphold design intent and brand standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Manage multiple styles and seasonal calendars at various stages of development simultaneously.
  • Meet all required deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintain strong written and verbal communication skills, ensuring effective and timely collaboration with global vendors and cross-functional teams.
  • Approach problem-solving with a solution-oriented mindset, contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required for vendor visits, fit reviews, or factory development trips.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in technical design with running or performance apparel strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong ability to evaluate fit, make pattern corrections, and communicate clearly with overseas factories.
  • Highly organized with a proven ability to manage multiple product seasons and timelines concurrently.
  • Proficient in PLM systems, Adobe Illustrator, Excel, and garment measuring tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Effective team player with a solution-driven and proactive approach.
  • Experience with both international and domestic travel related to product development.
  • Degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Technology, or related field preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with 3D design/fitting software or digital garment prototyping tools.
  • Knowledge of performance materials, movement analysis, or technical seam engineering.
  • Personal interest in running, fitness, or outdoor performance apparel.
