As a Director of Engineering on our AI & Data initiatives, you will contribute to a critical and strategic area for Thrive. You will use your experience with data insights, ML, and Generative AI to transform how Thrive creates health and well-being outcomes by leading engineering teams to build & deliver data, ML, & AI solutions that are deeply personalized and tailored to our users. You will guide Thrive’s direction and broad reaching investments in AI with your insights and experience. You have a forward-thinking mindset, and an ability to translate the vast opportunities in front of you into actionable, phased strategies . While you’re a leader, you’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves and diving into the details when necessary.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Lead the entire Data Science, Data Engineering, ML & AI technology stack, from conceptualization to implementation.

  • Drive decisions and work with multiple teams to prioritize Data Science, ML, and AI initiatives especially in the area of Generative AI.

  • Proactively uncover areas of Thrive’s product and user experience that can be enhanced by generative AI and machine learning solutions, and partner with Technology leadership to prioritize them.

  • Operate as a thought partner and leader to Technology and GTM leadership, identifying risks and opportunities to shape our products and its potential to transform well-being through ML/AI.

  • Push adoption of emerging and relevant approaches to solve ML and AI problems, and empower the team to embrace pragmatic approaches to evaluate multiple solutions.

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of ML engineers, data scientists and data engineers.

Must Haves:

  • Demonstrated history of leadership in managing high impact machine learning and engineering projects, preferably in a SaaS startup environment.

  • Strong leadership and vision, and proven track record of creating and successfully executing a data strategy.

  • A track record of managing a multi-discipline Data team, with experience overseeing Data Science, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning.

  • Experience with distributed system design, system scaling, and performance optimization.

  • Practical experience implementing machine learning models & GenAI for predictive business outcomes.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across multiple levels, from detailed technical designs with engineering to broad product initiatives with key business stakeholders.

  • Comfortable in a remote-first environment, working across timezones.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience prioritizing competing objectives and communicating the rationale for complicated decision-making.

Compensation for this role depends on level, and will likely fall in the $204,000-272,000 range. We provide a competitive mix of salary, performance bonus, and equity.
