Senior Product engineer - Django React
Symbiotic Security
🧑 💻 Product Engineer (Backend-leaning) – AI & Security
📍 Paris (Morning Laffitte) | 🏠 2 remote days/week | 💼 Full-time
About Symbiotic Security
Symbiotic Security is a cybersecurity startup helping developers write secure code through an AI-powered assistant integrated into their IDE and CI/CD pipelines.
Our product does two things extremely well:
- Detect & fix vulnerabilities introduced by AI-generated code (GitHub Copilot, etc.)
- Train developers in context, as they code, so security becomes part of their daily flow
Founded in April 2024, we’re currently 16 in Paris and 5 in New York.
Our product team is small and collaborative: fullstack engineers, AI engineers, security experts and designers working closely together.
The Role – Product Engineer, not just “Fullstack Dev”
We’re looking for a Product Engineer (70% backend / 30% frontend) who cares as much about what we build as how we build it.
You won’t just “take tickets”, you’ll be expected to: challenge product ideas, refine problem statements, and own features end-to-end, from design to production.
You’ll work closely with:
- Edouard (CTO)
- Abir & Minh Thang (Engineer Manager/ Tech Lead)
- in a 3–4 dev team where every line of code has visible impact.
- Our Product Manager and Product designer
What you’ll work on
You’ll spend most of your time on backend-heavy product work, with enough frontend to ship complete user experiences:
- 🔐 Vulnerability Remediation
- Design and evolve our engine that detects and fixes security issues in real-world codebases.
- 🤖 AI Security (AI-generated code)
- Keep up with the fast-moving AI ecosystem and build protections against vulnerabilities introduced by AI coding tools.
- 🧩 Platform Expansion
- Support more IDEs, languages, and platforms (e.g. GitLab), and keep the architecture scalable as we grow.
There’s a lot of new product work ahead, but also significant refactoring as we outgrow some of our initial designs. If you like cleaning up, simplifying architectures and preparing for scale, you’ll feel at home.
How we work
We’re not dogmatic about process. Our methodology is a mix of Scrum and Shape Up:
- 2-week cycles, dailies and retros
- Short briefs & kick-offs
- High availability of the EM/CTO for decisions
- Strong expectation of ownership from engineers
We value:
- Curiosity (especially around AI and new tech)
- Product thinking (challenge the “what”, not just execute the “how”)
- Clear communication on blockers or delays
- Comfort with ambiguity and fluid methodology (no heavy ceremonies or rigid Jira religion)
What we’re looking for
We don’t expect you to tick every box, but you should recognize yourself in most of these:
Core Skills
- ✅ Strong experience in Python & Django (or similar web framework)
- ✅ Comfortable with TypeScript / React for product UI work
- ✅ Solid SQL knowledge (PostgreSQL is a plus)
- ✅ You care about clean architecture, testing, performance & reliability
Product Engineer Mindset
- You think in terms of problems, not tickets
- You’re happy to do 70% backend / 30% frontend if it means owning a feature end-to-end
- You enjoy talking through product trade-offs with design and engineering
- You’re not afraid of refactors when needed
Bonus Points
- Experience with security, developer tools, or AI
- Familiarity with DDD, domain modelling, hexagonal architecture
- Interest in AI-assisted development (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude…)
- Experience with cloud & infra: AWS, Docker, Terraform
Our Tech Stack
- Backend: Python 3.12+ / Django (REST API, monolith)
- Frontend: TypeScript / React (SPA)
- Database: PostgreSQL
- Infra: AWS / Docker / Terraform
- Architecture: Hexagonal, DDD in progress
- Testing: ~94% backend coverage
- Tooling: Sentry, internal analytics, CLI tools, AI agents
