Based in NYC, Studs is looking for a Controller to oversee accounting and financial reporting. The Controller will ensure the accuracy of Studs’ general ledger and accounts payable system, lead the month end close process and end of year audit, manage the Studs corporate card program and employee reimbursements, and maintain business and tax compliance in the jurisdictions that Studs operates. The Controller will manage a Sr. Accountant and a 3rd party firm, and will report to the VP of Finance & Analytics.
The Controller must have solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills, as well as possess knowledge of all aspects of GAAP.
Salary Range: $175K-$200K, plus equity
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operational functions for an accurate and timely close, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes as the accounting function comes 100% in house
- Prepare internal and external financial statements and reporting
- Act as the main point of contact and manage activities of external auditors
- Coordinate with business owners for just in time payments and accurate coding in accounts payable system (bill.com)
- Manage existing credit card program and employee reimbursement platform (Expensify), evaluate ways to improve controls and make more efficient
- Hire, train and retain skilled accounting staff
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Skills & Requirements
- 7-10+ years of prior business experience
- Professional experience with brick & mortar retail, revenue recognition, COGs, lease accounting, and fixed assets
- Professional accreditation such as certified public accountant (CPA) preferred
- Demonstrate strong management skills to oversee accounting staff
- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite / Google Suite or similar software
- Experience with ERP implementation highly preferred
