Reporting to the Director of Cost Planning, Senior Cost Consultant, Mechanical is passionate about providing a variety of cost consulting services to new and existing clients while maintaining an outstanding Client Relationships. This position is based out of our Calgary or Edmonton Office.Key Responsibilities:
Calculate quantities and/or measurements of specific building elements based upon drawings and/or other contract documentation for detailed and/or conceptual estimates
Measure change orders documentation to allow for accurate development of change order estimates
Undertake site visits for processing contractor monthly progress drawdown claims. Inspect and assess mechanical elements throughout various building and infrastructure projects
Conduct technical spot checks and/or quality reviews of work produced by junior staff to ensure quality assurance of work
Assist and/or execute the development, compilation and/or finalization of cost estimates within designated timeframes
Provide general project administration and main project filing and archiving to ensure up to date documentation is available
Conduct research and price checking of items in the market (telephone and/or internet searching) to provide project and cost data cost information
Conduct lifecycle analysis (cost estimate, current condition, remaining life, maintenance cost, etc.)
Maintain ongoing client communication and resolving issues as required. Escalating issues to the next level of management as required.
Manage client relationships in a manner that leads to contract renewal, referrals and service expansion including up-sells and cross-sells
Key Qualifications:
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, Quantity Surveying or in a related field
7-10+ years of related experience in cost consulting.
Good understanding of the construction industry including development, contracting and consulting sectors and a good knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
Working towards PQS or MRICS designation
Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, honesty and ethics, and client service orientation
Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written & presentation
Strong leadership skills, ability to present independently to clients, good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and knowledge of CostX and/or similar cost estimating software
