Altus Group is looking for a Real Property Tax Consultant to join our Dallas, Houston and Atlanta office (Hybrid working available). You will be reporting into the Senior Manager. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting independent property tax analysis of moderate to complex files/cases. You will direct the data collection and initial analysis of junior staff. You will also train new staff on concepts and the specific step-by-step procedures applicable to the tax specialization of each file/case.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently analyze data to assist with scope definition, appeal determination, and/or project completion.

• Provide recommendations to management for course appeal recommendations and/or next steps of a project of appeal

• Assist with preparation of documents to support scope of work and jurisdiction requirements.

• Accurately fill out forms, gather data necessary to meet project requirements and accurately fill out data in systems or forms.

• Through analysis, determine which assessments should be escalated to appeal & follow through with appeal procedures (informal negotiations with assessors, involving managers as necessary)

• Research of tax code, industry, specific asset types and/or jurisdiction requirements

• Present conclusions based on research and provide recommendations to management for course of action on the project

• Log and review assessments and tax bills issued for accuracy and identify those that should be appealed

• Provide instruction and training to junior staff, along with review of their work

• Correspond with clients, assessors, and third-party vendors to coordinate projects or transmit/gain data and information or explain methodology

• Starting to work towards the IPT CMI designation

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance, or other business-related field preferred, but not required)

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in Property tax - real property and understanding of property valuation concepts

• Preferably previous relevant real property valuation experience

• Working knowledge of the commercial real estate market

• Advance level Excel, Word and Adobe skills

• Ability to consolidate and analyze large and complex data sets

• Advanced analytical skills

• High attention to detail
