Role x You

The Entertainment Editor will be responsible for executing multi-platform journalism across Refinery29’s Good Game (GG) and Entertainment vertical. In this role, you will be responsible for writing and editing for social and site as well as helping to grow Refinery29’s Twitch channel, taking our award-winning content into the future. You’ll have a love of gaming and pop culture. Superior organizational abilities, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail are a must.

Role x Team

Grow Refinery29’s GG and Entertainment POVs (on site, social, and Twitch) to be a safe, inclusive space for women and nonbinary folks. Working closely with the Entertainment Director, you will be a key support on ideating and helping produce stream segments, writing or editing on-site stream recaps and other gaming stories, and producing entertainment content for social and site that ties to brand tone of voice and editorial best practices.

In the short term you will…

  • Write originally reported gaming and pop culture features that deliver sharp, inspiring, informational and humorous takes on the most compelling and emerging ideas, stories, brands, and conversations.

  • Assign, build and edit your colleagues’ and freelancers’ stories, optimizing for SEO and, where applicable, affiliate conversion

  • Track analytics for optimized reporting and be comfortable to analyze content performance using analytics tools

  • Work closely with the Entertainment Director and Twitch team to ideate stream segments, write questions and scripts, and execute on original and creative content

  • Coordinate and produce live event coverage for social content

  • Process and track invoices where required


After 6 months in this role you will…

  • Maintain a list of trusted freelancers within your beat, training them to write in the R29 voice across gaming and pop culture

  • Work closely with your team to develop and execute story, series and package ideas, and write at least one recurring editorial or social series for your category

  • Work closely with the Entertainment Director to ensure a cohesive workflow, utilizing Asana and other tools

  • Maintain a deep list of contacts in gaming and beyond

  • Serve as a positive face for Refinery29 at industry events and functions


And after a year you should be…

  • Be a brand guardian for gaming and pop culture and Twitch, helping the editorial team identify growth opportunities and scale GG across channels

  • Work closely with the R29 Twitch team to develop and execute large thematic streams around tentpole events (Most Wanted liveshopping, holidays, etc.)

  • Support with best practice guidelines and documentation, sharing with the commercial team when needed


Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit originally reported gaming and pop culture features, closely working with writers to sharpen their voice, fact-check their claims, and structure their piece in the most compelling way

  • Collaborate with the SEO, Social, and Email teams to optimize content

  • Help Ideate Twitch stream segments, write questions and scripts, and execute on original and creative content

  • Contribute cross-platform idea at editorial meetings and help develop and conceptualize planned tentpoles (on-platform and off), content weeks and experiential events

  • Help with onboarding of new hires, training them on the R29 brand and tone of voice and style guide

  • Research the latest trends and leaders in gaming and pop culture, write scripts/questions

  • Analyze and create reports on audience data and make recommendations for maximum growth and impact


You have these:

  • 3+ years of editorial experience or experience in a similar roles

  • Extensive knowledge of Twitch, gaming, and streaming

  • Passion for pop culture, identifying trends before they become mainstream

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A love and an eye for Refinery29's aesthetic and POV is a must!

  • Deep knowledge of gaming, streaming, Twitch lingo, and chat etiquette (if you know what KEKW means, we want to speak with you!)

  • In agreement with journalistic principles and ethics to maintain your personal editorial independence

The salary range is subject to change and may be amended in the future. Experience, education, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.

Pay Range Details:

New York/California: 80,000 - 82,000 USD
