Compensation

  • $500.00

If you are an early-career HVAC engineer with 1-5 years experience that includes working with air-cooled chillers, we have a unique opportunity for you that is compatible with your existing job. We are looking for you to take a 4-hour written test on air-cooled chiller design for test calibration purposes. We want you to do a good job, but your score ultimately will not affect your payment. We just want to correlate your score with your level of schooling and experience. You will be compensated $500 for approximately 4.5 hours of work (> $100/hour): four hours of test-taking in a single session and a half hour of feedback on the test itself. You will not need to sign a consulting agreement and you can do it during off-work hours if you are currently employed. If you’re interested, this can lead to further consulting opportunities with our company.

Task Description

You will be given a timed test to take with approximately 60 multiple-choice questions about air-cooled chiller design. This will be a 4-hour computer-based “closed book” test — meaning no reference materials and no aides such as Google, AI, Excel, etc. are permitted, except a calculator. There will be some select reference materials provided as part of the test. You will have the option to either install a test-taking software on your computer or sign up for a proctored Zoom session with one of our staff. Your payment will not be contingent on your performance on the test. Your results will be anonymized and will not be publicly linked to you. At the conclusion of the test, you will be asked to complete a short survey regarding the test questions. You will need to complete the test in one sitting between October 29 and November 3, 2025.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 1-5 years of HVAC design engineering experience (note that field tech experience does not qualify) including specific experience with air-cooled chillers

  • Solid understanding of the vapor cycle in air-cooled chiller systems

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standard codes (ASHRAE, AHRI) in HVAC chiller design

  • You can be based anywhere in the world to participate

  • You must be proficient in English sufficiently to understand the test

IF YOU DO NOT MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS WE ASK THAT YOU NOT APPLY

Compensation Range: $500.00
