About The Role

We are partnering with a growing, project-based energy company in Houston that is seeking a hands-on Controller to help strengthen financial operations and manage cash flow in a dynamic environment.

This role is highly operational and will work closely with leadership and project teams to ensure financial alignment across active projects.

Key Focus Of The Role

This position is centered around managing cash flow and working capital in an environment where project funding is received in stages rather than fully upfront.

The Controller Will Play a Key Role In

  • Navigating timing gaps between project spend and lender funding
  • Ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, billing, and documentation
  • Partnering with operations to keep projects moving and funded efficiently

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AR, AP, and month-end close
  • Manage and improve accounts receivable, billing, and collections processes
  • Monitor and forecast cash flow and working capital across active projects
  • Work closely with operations to align project costs, billing, and funding timelines
  • Support lender reporting, documentation, and funding requirements
  • Identify and implement process improvements to improve cash flow visibility and timing
  • Ensure accuracy of job costing, WIP, and project financial tracking

What We're Looking For:

  • 8+ years of accounting/finance experience with Controller or senior accounting leadership experience
  • Background in project-based environments such as construction, energy, EPC, or industrial services
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, billing and collections, working capital, and cash flow management
  • Experience operating in environments where funding or revenue is received in stages or tied to project milestones
  • Hands-on approach with willingness to get into the details and solve problems
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with operations and leadership teams
