Position Summary

The Payroll Supervisor Position supervises our team of Sr. Payroll Specialists, Payroll Specialists, Payroll Assistants and Payroll Associates in the organization's client payroll function

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides day to day operational leadership within the department.
  • Responsible for performance reviews, PTO approval, timecard approvals, coaching employees, second escalation, review and recommend improvements to existing procedures.
  • Ensure that all payrolls are completed as scheduled and help the team where needed
  • Monitors the work of a team of payroll associates and specialists that input payroll data and prepare payroll checks.
  • Inputs changes to personnel information or tax law and overtime or bonus payments or calculations.
  • Assists in the preparation and distribution of payroll-related summaries.
  • Develop best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy of payroll processes
  • Review and recommend improvements to existing payroll procedures
  • Ensure that payroll is processed timely and accurately
  • Assist in payroll calculations, deductions, insurance coverage, wage garnishments and tax filings
  • Prepare client/ wage summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, retirement savings and benefits
  • Work with other departments to process current year and prior year voids
  • Address payroll related queries and requests
  • Analyze payroll problems and provide appropriate resolutions
  • Follow and enforce federal, provincial and local laws
  • Participate in hiring process, performance reviews and progressive discipline
  • Prepare and lead department meetings

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Self-motivated, professional capable of working with minimal supervision, ability to reflect and be accountable
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting concrete deadlines
  • Must have strong organizational skills, be able to prioritize and quickly switch between projects and priorities
  • Ability to work effectively with internal departments
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to adapt message for audience
  • Proficient to strong skills in MS Office, including Excel and Outlook
  • Proven ability to make proper judgment calls when presented by a situation/problem

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of experience, skills, education (including other relevant non-traditional degree programs, certifications, or job training programs) required.
  • Experience handling/managing multi-Canadian provincial payrolls, payroll systems, and processing Canadian payroll.
  • 5-7 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in the payroll services or similar industry.
  • Bilingual - Proficient in French and English

Required Licenses And/or Certifications

  • PCP or PLP certification required for this position.
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is also highly preferred.

Indoor, office environment. May occasionally have moderate noise level from copiers, W2 or check printers, or co-workers.
