Position Summary

The Technical Writer is responsible for writing and maintaining documentation for PrismHR products. The Technical Writer works closely with Product Managers and SMEs to develop customer-facing content and uses technical writing tools to author and publish online help and release notes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Author content using various technical writing tools.
  • Research product information by attending standups and working with Quality Assurance Engineers, Product Managers, and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Leverage tools such as Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, and TestRail to understand issues and develop documentation.
  • Capture end-user and administrative tasks performed in PrismHR products and their expected results.
  • Manage documentation drafts and the flow of information during development and testing.
  • Collaborate with teammates.
  • Participate in Agile development processes and influence product enhancements based on customer needs.
  • Create/Maintain a product Help Community.
  • Manage PrismHR documentation with varying priorities and deadlines bi-weekly/monthly sprints.
  • Use revision and source control effectively within a team setting.
  • Act as an ambassador of collaboration within and across the organization, sharing knowledge in areas of expertise.
  • Build, maintain and promote relationships with team members, peers across disciplines, and all other company team members ensuring effective coordination of communications and services affecting clients.
  • Attend webinars and training to stay up to date on best practices related to the company and department.
  • Complete projects and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, analyze, and interpret complex technical concepts, and translate them into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Strong technical curiosity and a proactive drive to understand PrismHR's platform, features, and workflows, enabling accurate and insightful content creation.
  • Collaborative team contributor, committed to building positive working relationships and supporting cross-functional partners such as product, engineering, and support teams.
  • Effective prioritization and time-management skills, including the ability to balance multiple assignments while incorporating direction and feedback from management.

Required Education & Experience

  • BS/BA in related fields such as Computer Science, Communications, English, or Technical Writing or equivalent combination of experience, skills, education (including other relevant non-traditional degree programs, certifications, or job training programs).
  • A minimum of four years of experience as a Technical Writer for complex software systems, preferably in a SaaS or web-based environment.
  • Experience with Visio or other flowcharting software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and demonstrated ability to learn other applications as needed.

  • Sedentary Work: Primarily involves sitting for extended periods, often at a desk or computer.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • Concentration: Sustained concentration and analytical thinking to understand complex payroll, HR, and compliance workflows and translate them into accurate documentation.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy needed when reviewing product behavior, validating expected results, and managing version control.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to interpret incomplete information, identify gaps, and proactively seek clarification from SMEs.
  • Multitasking: Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines.
  • Decision-Making: Make informed decisions regarding when it is appropriate to escalate concerns or issues.
  • Adaptability: Adaptability and resilience when requirements shift, deadlines change, or new information emerges late in the development cycle.

Communication Demands:

  • Interpersonal Skills: Frequent collaboration with cross-functional partners including QA Engineers, Product Managers, Developers and Support teams. Ability to ask targeted, clarifying questions to extract technical details and confirm expected product behavior.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Written Communication: Prepare clear and concise documentation, including reports, emails and notes.
  • Verbal Communication: Effective verbal communication when presenting documentation needs, negioting priorities, or advocating for user experience improvements.
  • Presentation Skills: Present information effectively in training sessions with clients and other employees.
