About Us

The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely operating the drill. Setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground holes and pulling back required conduit. Drill operator will work with the Locator and laborers to complete the job from start to finish on outside plant projects, Including digging boring pits, couplers on conduit sections if needed, setting hand holes, Pot holing existing utilities, back filling open holes and seed an straw.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Will have previous experience in HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) specifically and know how to operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch Drills.
  • Will read and interpret site plans, blueprints and utility markings to ensure proper location to operate.
  • Will perform pre operation equipment inspections, ensuring proper maintenance and adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Will maneuver equipment in tight spaces and around existing utilities with precision.
  • Must wear required uniform and PPE at all times.
  • Ad hoc- projects, other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to make good decisions.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Clean driving record is required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. CDL preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, based on project and business needs.
  • This position will be exposed to outdoor elements to include but not limited to extreme heat and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, sleet, wind, uneven terrain, road noise and traffic. Will routinely work around heavy equipment and tools with moving mechanical parts. This position requires lifting of materials in excess of 50lbs.

Education & Experience

  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment in construction, telecommunications, or utility environments.
  • Knowledge of safe digging practices and underground utility identification.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
