Position Summary

The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in supporting safe, compliant, and efficient field operations within our telecommunications and construction teams. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs; conducting site audits; providing training; and ensuring full alignment with OSHA standards and company safety policies. The Safety Specialist works closely with field crews, supervisors, and leadership to promote a proactive safety culture across all job sites.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Implementation

  • Develop, implement, and enforce company safety programs and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and internal policies
  • Support safety initiatives across telecom, construction, aerial, and underground operations

Field Support & Job Site Audits

  • Conduct regular job site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance
  • Document findings, communicate corrective actions, and monitor follow-up
  • Report unsafe conditions or behaviors and recommend effective solutions

Training & Education

  • Deliver safety training to field crews and supervisors (e.g., PPE use, hazard communication, equipment safety)
  • Reinforce safety expectations and support the development of a safety-first culture
  • Assist with onboarding safety training for new team members

Incident Response & Investigation

  • Lead or support investigations of incidents, accidents, and near-misses
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Maintain accurate records and incident reports for leadership review

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain documentation of safety meetings, audits, corrective actions, and training records
  • Support leadership with safety reporting and metrics
  • Assist supervisors and managers with safety accountability and best practices

Operational Support

  • Travel regularly to multiple job sites as needed
  • Respond to safety-related needs, including early mornings, occasional weekends, and emergency situations
  • Work effectively in active construction and field environments

Qualifications

  • Experience in safety, risk management, telecom, construction, or a similar field preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, including:
    • Fall protection
    • Electrical safety
    • Trenching and excavation
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence safe behaviors
  • Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and investigations with professionalism
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (required)
Preferred Background

  • Experience supporting safety in telecom, fiber, utility, or construction environments
  • Experience conducting job site audits and delivering safety training
  • Demonstrated ability to handle safety violations with fairness and consistency
