The Role:
We are seeking an Associate Designer for Hardgoods based in our NY office to help us continue to innovate and redefine the furniture space across our many brands (Interior Define, The Citizenry, Burrow, The Inside and St Frank). The Associate Designer will report into the Senior Design Manager for Hard Goods as well as the broader product design team to expand our brands’ product offerings from concept to reality. The ideal hire will understand the aesthetic for each individual brand as well as identify white space in the market and display an inventive spirit with an excellent eye for detail. Additionally, the Associate Designer will need to contribute to design presentations, create specifications, and work with the rest of the product development and operations teams to ensure all product development deadlines and key calendar dates are met. Additional preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate the skills needed to work with our manufacturers and internal development team on product construction and quality.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct market research for future designs and help create concepts for product categories, colors and materials
- Oversee design and development of items in all the relevant product categories, from initial concept through sample approval
- Manage designs from sketches and renderings, to production ready CAD models and technical drawing sets
- Review specifications and samples and provide guidance and feedback to factories
- Drive calendar to ensure all deadlines and key dates are met
- Maintain organization of drawings and files on the shared drive
- Catalog and maintain our finish library as well as communicate comets on material & finish development to factories
Who You Are:
- Minimum 2-4 years professional experience required in the home furniture industry.
- Experience with, but not limited to, 3D modeling (Rhino), renderings, technical drawing sets, light engineering and Ready-to-Assemble furniture
- Passionate about design, style, and decorating
- Knowledgeable of the product development process, including working and communicating with factories
- Experienced in designing to a budget and working with the cost implications of the materials and manufacturing techniques used in the execution of your designs
- Love to work collaboratively in a group and have an innate willingness to dig in and contribute to your team
- Pride yourself on the quality of work and are a stickler for the details
- Degree in design or equivalent experience
- Communicate effectively with internal and external resources to ensure new product development success
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of material and process technologies applicable to new product development
Additional Details:
- This is a hybrid full-time exempt position based in New York City. The expectation for this role is that the individual will be onsite 2-3 days per week.
- Targeted compensation range for this role up to $70,000/year, dependent upon experience.
