At NerdWallet, we’re on a mission to bring clarity to all of life’s financial decisions and every great mission needs a team of exceptional Nerds. We’ve built an inclusive, flexible, and candid culture where you’re empowered to grow, take smart risks, and be unapologetically yourself (cape optional). Whether remote or in-office, we support how you thrive best. We invest in your well-being, development, and ability to make an impact because when one Nerd levels up, we all do.
NerdWallet’s Security Team keeps an eye on what’s happening inside NerdWallet and in the world to protect our consumers and the company. We’re looking for a Senior Intelligent Automation Engineer to join our team and help us scale our use of automation and AI across the company. In this role, you’ll architect and build secure, scalable automation solutions that integrate artificial intelligence into business-critical workflows. Your work will improve security, operational resilience, speed up response times, and make our internal processes more efficient, while ensuring security is built in from the ground up.
You’ll partner with business process owners as well as cross-functional teams including Security, DevOps, Data, and Engineering to understand needs and create intelligent automations across departments such as IT, cybersecurity, finance, or HR. This position is a match if you enjoy solving complex problems, thinking like both an engineer and a security strategist, and want to shape the future of AI-powered automation at NerdWallet.
This position reports to our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Where you can make an impact:
Architect and implement integrations between enterprise systems, APIs, and AI/ML models with a strong focus on security and compliance related functions
Design and deploy automation pipelines using languages and tools such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, Node.js, and frameworks like Airflow, Prefect, or Robocorp
Implement AI-driven workflows (e.g., NLP, anomaly detection, predictive analytics) using services such as OpenAI, Perplexity, Anthropic, AWS AI, Google Gemini, etc.
Ensure secure authentication, data handling, and access control in all automation processes
Collaborate with InfoSec, AppSec and IT teams to conduct risk assessments and audit-friendly automation
Develop monitoring tools and dashboards to track automation health, policy compliance, security posture, and system performance
Continuously evaluate new AI tools, frameworks, and automation platforms to enhance capabilities securely
Your experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in automation engineering, software development, or security engineering roles
Proficiency in creatively replacing manual tasks and decision-making with Generative AI solutions
Strong proficiency in Python, Javascript, Typescript, Terraform and scripting for automation; familiarity with API integrations and cloud-native tools
Experience securing automation environments, including least-privilege design, encryption, and audit logging
Knowledge of popular machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), IAM, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
Familiarity with common security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS) and how to apply them to automated systems
