The Senior IT System Administrator at NerdWallet is responsible for maintaining the stability, scalability, and security of the organization’s technology infrastructure. They will be involved with design, configuration, and maintenance of key IT systems, including corporate identity, endpoint management, security, networking, and cloud platforms. Additionally, they will evaluate emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, and provide strategic guidance to peers and management on infrastructure-related initiatives to ensure we are providing reliable and efficient infrastructure and services to the business.
Projects you may be working on in this position include:
Drive continuous improvement by evaluating and refining operational processes, policies, and best practices
Consider maintainability, scalability, observability, cost, quality, security, and performance within your scope of ownership
Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to enhance identity management, endpoint security, and overall IT infrastructure efficiency
Where you can make an impact:
Identity & Endpoint Management
Develop and maintain enterprise identity management solutions (e.g., Okta) to securely manage user authentication, access controls, and single sign-on (SSO)
Develop and maintain user lifecycle management automations to streamline onboarding and offboarding of users and devices and access to applications
Oversee endpoint management systems to ensure consistent security policies, configuration standards, and software deployments across all endpoints (laptops, desktops, mobile devices)
Security & Compliance
Collaborate with security teams to enforce endpoint protection policies, patching, compliance monitoring, and vulnerability remediation
Assist with SOX auditing and compliance enforcement, and ensure IT infrastructure processes and procedures align with corporate security guardrails and other relevant security and compliance frameworks
Infrastructure Support & Maintenance
Maintain all IT infrastructure components, including networks, servers, firewalls, applications, and cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Ensure the creation, maintenance, and dissemination of technical documentation such as runbooks, SOPs, and end-user documentation

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience successfully working in a remote role

Proven experience with the following technologies:
Support and diagnosis of issues with current Mac, Windows, and mobile devices and ability to serve as an escalation point and mentor for the helpdesk team
IdP/SSO concepts (SAML/OAuth), provisioning (SCIM/JIT), and platform administration (Okta)
MDM platform administration (Jamf, Intune)

Functional understanding of the following:
Security principles (least privilege, secure design, data protection)
Automation using code and no-code tools (Okta Workflows, webhooks, APIs, AWS Lambda/Cloud Functions, Python, Bash/ZSH, PowerShell)
Networking principles, troubleshooting, management, and administration
Cloud concepts (IaaS, public cloud) and platform administration
Strong technical verbal and written skills and ability to produce and maintain technical documentation
Ability to build a project plan and carry it to completion without oversight
Experience with change management and helping to define team processes, procedures, and best practices
Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience with integrating disparate IT systems and processes, compliance controls (e.g. SOX) and security standards (e.g. NIST, ISO), and IT certifications in System Administration, Security, Networking and related fields are all a plus
