ABOUT THE ROLE

The VP, Engineering - Data Platform and ERP at FSD is responsible for all aspects of our internal information systems including our ERP system (currently SAP), our data warehouse (BigQuery), and all of the integrations that bring our systems together. This role is deeply knowledgeable around how data flows from a point of purchase into the fulfillment process, and how to make that process observable for various teams throughout the organization to best operate their respective parts of the business through data and reporting. This role partners with the CTO on delivering proper architecture for the future of all brands at FSD and is constantly taking steps to architect and achieve that future, leading the strategic planning and execution on automation and optimization of our process flows from when an order is received to when a customer gets their shipment, and how reporting ensures visibility throughout that process.

The VP, Engineering - Data Platform and ERP is highly experienced at optimizing ERP systems for a retail business, and brings a deep understanding and best practices around how the fulfillment and accounting processes of an e-commerce business, and understands the delivery of complex customer orders at scale.

This role collaborates directly with the CTO and VP of Engineering (Product) on the interoperability of our consumer experience and our fulfillment technology, and constantly striving to improve our process. You will collaborate with the CTO on the ERP and Data roadmap, and will lead the charge around procurement of new technologies to best optimize our back of house infrastructure. You are passionate about optimizing your teams’ work to ensure there are minimal bottlenecks or critical points of failure, communicating successes and challenges early and often. You will set the example for process improvement, cross functional stakeholder management, and executive communication.

** This is a hybrid role with the expectation to work out of our Portland, OR office Tuesday through Thursday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and maintain the processes and development around our ERP (enterprise resource planning) system.
  • Manage the team of ERP specialists, and work closely to learn from the long context across all three of our brands, and develop a best in class solution for the future of our retail business.
  • Manage the team of FTE and contract data engineers to own and maintain the data platform, in collaboration with stakeholder analysts to own and build out our ETL tools and create data marts for various teams.
  • Own (in collaboration with the CTO) the Data and ERP roadmaps, from working with stakeholders on discovery to execution and delivery
  • Own the functional areas in between our web stack and the ERP system, including AWS Lambda functions that pass data back and forth to the ERP.
  • Accountable for all platform architectural decisions alongside other engineering stakeholders (CTO and product engineering team), with a focus on decision making that contributes to stakeholder needs and the overall business strategy and an eye for scale.
  • Working with 3PL partners and dropshippers on best practices and processes to ensure a scalable system is maintained.
  • Focuses on developing and refactoring the processes to “debug” their organization, especially communicating bottlenecks that result in critical dependencies both on team members and technologies.
  • Maintains a high level of data integrity and understands the flow of data from Purchase Order to Fulfillment to Revenue Recognition, working closely with data teams to maintain the integrity of the data within the systems.
  • Keeps the team on track and aligned with the CTO vision for the team, ensuring that deliverables and work streams are in line with that vision
  • Communicates status and delivery updates to stakeholders early and often, including roadblocks and challenges.
  • Ensures delivery of high quality documentation of every system and scalability of platforms across all brands.
  • Jumps in to help unblock team members when needed by providing clear direction alongside established team practices, and provides clear end-to-end instruction on the “how” when needed, especially on larger projects.
  • Provides clear career development feedback of team members, including promotion and performance improvement recommendations, and participates in team calibrations to establish performance guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years’ experience managing and maintaining information systems, including retail ERP and data warehouse platforms.
  • 6+ years experience in ERP implementations and digital transformations, retail product management, and technical architecture.
  • 5+ years working in a retail sales consumer goods environment
  • 5+ years working with data ETLs and business intelligence platforms
  • 3+ years managing ERP and/or data engineers
  • 3+ years managing teams focused on multiple aspects of the platform infrastructure, including ERP and reporting outputs.
  • 3+ years experience with BigQuery, Snowflake or similar
  • 3+ years of experience in SAP
  • 3+ years owning and delivering on a technical roadmap, with a relentless focus on eliminating process bottlenecks for scale.
  • Experience leading a major ERP migration for a retail brand
  • Strong SQL query writing ability
  • Experience building middleware (python, javascript, or similar) to communicate between systems
  • Ability to collaborate with leadership at all levels from the CEO to stakeholders across all business functions to best understand needs and build for them in order to optimize the roadmap.
  • Strong communication skills, able to share technical updates to stakeholders and transform stakeholder needs into technical requirements.
  • Ability to handle schedules and priorities and communicate appropriately about them
  • Bonus points:
    • Experience with SAP By Design a plus
    • Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing business a plus

COMPENSATION

This is an exempt role with a hiring range of $275,000 - $325,000 per year.
