POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager, Publishing Technologies is responsible for providing strategic oversight and operational leadership for the publishing technology ecosystem supporting the New York–based Creative Operations and Creative Services teams. This role ensures the stability, scalability, and effectiveness of publishing platforms, systems, and workflows across a complex, multi-brand creative environment.
Operating with a high degree of discretion and independent judgment, the Manager establishes technology standards, evaluates and recommends system enhancements, and governs best practices that enable efficient creative production. This position partners closely with IT, Creative leadership, and Operations to align publishing technology capabilities with business objectives, creative quality, and long-term operational needs.
The Manager serves as a subject-matter leader and escalation point for publishing technologies, providing guidance on system usage, workflow optimization, and emerging tools. While this role does not focus on routine hands-on production work, it plays a key role in influencing technology decisions, training direction, and cross-functional alignment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic direction and governance for publishing technologies, Mac-based systems, and digital asset infrastructure supporting Creative Operations and Creative Services.
- Evaluate, recommend, and oversee publishing system architecture to ensure alignment with current and future business requirements.
- Establish and maintain enterprise-level standards, workflows, and protocols for hardware, software, operating systems, and network usage within creative publishing environments.
- Serve as a senior resource for digital asset management strategy, including system structure, metadata and taxonomy standards, governance, and cross-brand consistency.
- Partner with IT and Creative leadership to assess technology needs, prioritize initiatives, and recommend investments that support operational efficiency and creative execution.
- Provide leadership oversight for publishing technology training strategies, ensuring teams are prepared to use systems effectively while delegating tactical training delivery as appropriate.
- Act as an escalation point for complex system issues, workflow challenges, and capacity planning, guiding resolution through analysis and collaboration rather than direct execution.
- Monitor and assess emerging publishing and creative technologies, including AI-enabled tools, and provide informed recommendations regarding adoption, risk, and value.
- Define high-level protocols for web photography and digital asset specifications to support brand standards and quality expectations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure publishing technology initiatives support broader commercial, creative, and operational objectives.
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by senior Creative Operations and Creative Services leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5–7 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (design or related field preferred), associate degree, or equivalent post-secondary technical training.
- Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered.
- Extensive experience leading and governing Mac-based publishing environments in complex creative or production settings.
- Advanced expertise in Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite, and publishing technologies, with demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge at a strategic leadership level.
- Strong working knowledge of databases and systems (including FMP, SQL, XML, FTP, scripting, AppleScript, Shell scripting, Dalim, Marketers Studio).
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize competing demands, and influence outcomes across multiple teams.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and creative disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership capability in setting standards, guiding teams, and driving operational excellence.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with experience managing complex, multi-project environments.
