POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Senior Merchant Manager to lead the launch and day-to-day operations of a new brand, while also overseeing multiple categories of an established brand. The position is accountable for planning and executing goals set to achieve sales plan, mark up, return rates and profit (EBIDTA). The Senior Merchandise Manager leads a team of Assistant Merchandisers/Associate Merchandisers and strongly partners with the Inventory and Merchandise Planning team to support best possible fulfillment, Creative Services to support catalog/web creative, Global Sourcing /Technical Design/Quality Assurance to aid in achieving set price goals & fit quality standards, Marketing to analyze and respond to customers' needs and promote products according to branding, and E-Commerce to drive online KPIs. The Senior Merchandise Manager is also involved in company initiatives and interacts with senior management. This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, innovative thinking, and the ability to manage multiple businesses simultaneously. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a proven track record of driving business growth, managing complex initiatives, and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Brand Launch and Growth: Lead the launch of a new brand, including strategy development, market positioning, product selection, and go-to-market execution. Manage the brand’s day-to-day operations, ensuring consistent growth and profitability.
- Category Management: Oversee both new brand and several key product categories for an established brand, managing product assortment, pricing, merchandising strategies, and sales performance. Collaborate with internal teams to align product offerings with past business successes, market demand and company goals.
- Catalog and Online Experience Creation: Develop and curate the product catalog for both the new and established brands, ensuring it is visually appealing, aligned with brand identity, and supports assortment strategies and buy plans. Collaborate with the digital team to ensure seamless integration of product listings, content, and navigation for a user-friendly online experience.
- Product Development: Manage market vendors or collaborate with Global Sourcing to develop new products according to the brand positioning, source piece goods, negotiate costs to meet margins/AIMU goals, ensure quality standards, and use our fabric/materials base to improve service levels.
- Customer Insights: Utilize customer data and market research to make informed decisions and ensure that the product offerings align with customer preferences and trends.
- Talent Management and Development: Provide technical and managerial leadership to recruit, integrate, develop direct reports ensuring goals and activities are aligned with individual and business expectations. Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture, ensuring talent retention and succession planning.
- Entrepreneurial Vision: Use innovative thinking to identify new opportunities, trends, and growth areas. Take ownership of business performance and contribute to the long-term strategy of both the new and established brands.
- Autonomous Operation: Work independently with minimal oversight to drive business results, manage timelines, and execute key initiatives. Exhibit strong decision-making skills and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Work closely with internal teams such as Marketing, Creative, Global Sourcing, Operations, Inventory/Planning, E-Commerce and Design to ensure seamless execution of product launches, promotional campaigns, and category management initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, Masters/MBA a plus
- Minimum 7-8 years of merchandising and product development experience with a proven track record in managing both new and established business categories.
- Expertise in product development, trend and branding
- Apparel experience (Catalog and/or web) is required
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects from inception to execution.
- Self-Motivated: Strong ability to work independently and take initiative with little direction. Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Analytical Skills: Strong data-driven decision-making abilities with the ability to analyze financial and sales data, track performance, and adjust strategies accordingly
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) is a must
- Experience in PLM/Adobe Preferred
