POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Inventory Planning is responsible for the full planning cycle, owning calendar and deliverables for pre-season planning, quarterly investment review, and in-season open to buy. This position projects sales, markdowns, and inventory levels on a regular basis. The Manager, Inventory Planning also identifies risks and opportunities, and develops action plans in cooperation with their merchandising partner to optimize sales, margin, and return on investment. This position supervises a team of merchandise planner(s) and merchandise planning analyst(s), and is responsible for all training and development of direct reports.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Season Planning

  • Develop seasonal financial plans with sales, margin and inventory turn targets using historic performance, trend analysis and brand strategies.
  • Partner with Merchandising and Sourcing to develop an assortment strategy using historical product analysis and performance.
  • Develop quarterly investment plans by product category with a productive flow of receipts and rationalize style and color counts.
  • Leverage channel insights for web, marketplace and print catalog to inform assortments.
  • Provide guidance to Inventory Planner and Inventory Planning analyst on:
  • Coverage for item and color level planning.
  • Size analysis and creation of accurate size curves
  • Projection for capacity and raw materials production in replenishment items.
  • Manage all milestones throughout pre-season process in collaboration with Merchandising, Sourcing and Production teams.

In-Season Management

  • Manage category open to buy process each month to project business results and develop action items to maximize the business.
  • Lead team in weekly analysis of sales, margin and inventory. Partner with Merchandising on actions and manage to open to buy. Accountable for pricing, reorders, cancelations and appropriate in-stocks of key items.
  • Accurately forecast and communicate future demands based on current performance. Identify risks and opportunities to current and future seasons.
  • Provide regular weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on business performance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop high-performing team members with opportunity to grow within the organization. Address all performance issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Build a relationship with cross-functional team to meet deliverables in an efficient manner.
  • Become a power user of internal assortment planning tool and sales reporting tool.
  • Create Reports that will simplify decision making for the brand using sound and consistent approach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years of experience in similar role
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen:
  • Use data to derive critical and meaningful insights to business performance and opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of retail math with the ability to use business results and metrics to drive action plans that benefit growth and mitigate risks.
  • Relationship building:
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with key partners to drive quality decisions.
  • Problem solving: Determine solutions with strong analysis and understanding of impacts to business and to partners.
  • Communication skills:
  • Effectively communicate in formal and informal settings using written and oral methods.
  • Present and be able to influence others.
  • Systems Proficiency:
  • Strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong command of retail math concepts and applications.
  • Experience in enterprise planning systems preferred.
  • Business Process mindfulness:
  • Strong understanding of process, the product development cycle and operations in a highly integrated business environment
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-moving and evolving environment.
  • Identify areas of operations efficiency on an on-going basis.
  • Ensure consistency in thought processes and best practices approach in team and with planning partners.
