POSITION SUMMARY:
The Merchant leads the merchandising and buying process for one of the largest areas within their Brand/Division. The Merchant responsible for planning and executing goals set to achieve sales plan, mark up, return rates and profit (EBIDTA). The Merchant leads a team of Merchants and partners with the Inventory Planning team to support fulfillment, Creative Services to support catalog/web creative, Sourcing to aid in achieving set price goals & fit quality standards, Marketing to analyze and respond to customers' needs and promote products according to branding, and E-Commerce to drive online KPIs. The Merchant is also involved in company initiatives and interacts with senior management.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead product assortment and design strategy, ensuring delivery of a compelling assortment that will meet or exceed our financial goals
- Oversee all aspects of seasonal assortment planning from initial selection through post seasonal analysis
- Develop short- and long-term strategies which help grow the current business
- Oversee the identification, development, and implementation of new business strategies, initiatives and product lines
- Collaborate with Inventory Planning to develop plans that leverage the current base and profitably support strategic growth and innovation
- Investigate and respond to catalog and web issues. Coordinate communication strategies with customer service
- Partners with planner responsible and managing all markdowns, promotions, cost changes and retail changes
- Analyze market (domestic) and provide observations of market to Buyer for market analyses
- Provide SKU information to Merchandising Operations for input
- Responsible for reading /approving catalog proofs for each catalog (pricing, naming, copy)
- Strong understanding of the brand customer and aesthetic
- Strong technical expertise, business and financial acumen
- Able to deliver results by influencing internal and external partners
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA/BS in related field and/or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years’ experience within the soft home furnishings, bath, and pet multi-channel retailer
- 5+ years’ experience managing a high performing environment
- Proven track record of driving profitable business expansion
- Thorough knowledge and experience in product development, global sourcing
- Ability to develop train, and lead
- Expertise in product development, trend and branding
- Strong analytical skills required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is a must
