Division Controller

Reporting directly to the Group VP of Accounting and Finance, the Division Controller will be responsible for leading the accounting, tax, and finance teams of Casper. The Division Controller will manage and direct daily accounting and finance activities; ensure that proper accounting and recording of company transactions are performed in an accurate and timely manner; ensure compliance with tax filings; and produce financial and other key reports for management. Candidates should possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), budgeting and forecasting, and information systems.

In addition to its e-commerce business, Casper has over 40 retail locations across the United States and its products are available at a number of retailers.
This is a hybrid role, requiring that you work 3 days per week from our NYC office.
When you’re not catching zzz’s, this is what you’ll do…
General Team Leadership
- Provide strategic management and leadership of Corporate Accounting, FP&A, AR/AP, Treasury and Indirect Tax functions
- Oversee all accounting processes, controls, and financial reporting functions throughout Company, and develop finance and accounting resources to support Company's business initiatives
- Suggest and establish best practices surrounding accounting, reporting and general ledger (GL) management
- Manage the financial planning and analyses (FP&A) function, including budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc analysis
- Liaise with business partners, IT/Tech, and Legal to develop interdepartmental relationships and efficient work flows necessary for ease of accounting and transfer of information
Accounting
- Lead the process for completing analysis supporting complex and subjective accounting
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Analyze the potential impact on the company, including the impact on financial modeling and budgeting, of new accounting standards
- Full cycle accounting, including GL, AR, AP, billing and month-end reporting
- Cash management and reconciliation
- Establish and ensure compliance with the financial controls and accounting policies and procedures of the organization
- Ensure the company’s compliance with recent and updated accounting pronouncements
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for revenue reporting, accruals, and cash management
- Coordinate all audit activity with internal and external auditors
- Oversee annual budgeting and planning process, inclusive of cash flow management and forecasting
Tax
- Ensure company compliance various state business filings, local tax registrations, property tax filings, sales/use tax returns
- Oversee statutory requirements and filings are met timely
- Oversight, with support of the group tax team, of the companies accounting surrounding deferred tax asset/liability
Reporting
- Responsible for all required financial reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
- Evaluate and streamline financial statement reporting to align with organizational needs
ERP
- Define and manage ERP processes and procedures (financial, accounting, production, labor costing and customer facing), balancing efficiency and the control environment
- Conduct business and cost analysis to advise business leaders on the most effective use of assets
- Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of the company's financial information
- Oversee financial systems and upgrades
Our dream candidate is/has...
- Bachelors in Accounting
- CPA license and proven experience as a Controller in a commercial/revenue generating company
- 10+ years of experience in accounting and financial roles with a minimum of five years in leadership position
- Knowledge of all aspects of GAAP and technical accounting
- FP&A experience and knowledge of the budgeting/forecasting process
- Experienced leader of people and process

- Develops effective working relationships with team members, business partners and vendors
- Understands how to manage change with stakeholders of a new system or process, leads change

Targeted Annual Base Salary Range: $200,000-230,000 USD
Casper’s compensation philosophy ensures that the actual base salary is based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, experience, special training, time in position, and/or years of service.
