Sr. Electrical Engineer (Brooklyn, NY)

Full-time | On-site (DUMBO – Brooklyn)

Full-time | On-site (Brooklyn) | $140,000–$160,000 + equity

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to take technical ownership of the electrical development of Caladan’s next-generation biomanufacturing platform. You’ll lead electrical design from early prototypes through production, working hands-on across schematic design, PCB layout, test development, EMC compliance, and manufacturing support.

This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments and wants to build real-world electromechanical systems that ship. You’ll work closely with our mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams to bring complex products to life, establish scalable engineering processes, and ensure our hardware performs reliably from the lab to full-scale production.

This is a fully in-person role based out of our DUMBO office and lab.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and ship electrical systems for Caladan’s bioreactor platform, taking designs from early prototypes all the way through manufacturing
  • Design, bring up, validate, and iterate on PCB design, schematics, and layout
  • Own the electrical side of NPI, driving execution across sourcing, manufacturing, quality, and contract partners. Manage BOMs and supplier relationships, keeping designs aligned with performance, cost, and availability
  • Establish scalable engineering processes for testing, manufacturing, documentation, and quality, improving yield and reliability as we grow
  • Develop and deploy test fixtures and automation, enabling fast debugging and consistent production testing
  • Lead EMC/EMI planning and compliance, ensuring products pass and stay compliant through revisions
  • Own the electrical schedule, milestone planning, and cross-team coordination for hardware programs. Collaborate with other engineers and help raise the bar on electrical design and manufacturing excellence.

What You’ll Bring

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Deep experience with schematic capture and PCB design, from first prototypes through production
  • Strong background in embedded systems, control systems, and sensor integration
  • Experience taking products into low- to medium-volume production, with an understanding of what it takes to scale.
  • Direct experience working with manufacturers and contract manufacturers, including design handoff and production support.
  • Working knowledge of DFMA, ECN workflows, and manufacturing-quality documentation
  • Hands-on experience designing and deploying test fixtures to support validation and manufacturing
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and project ownership, driving cross-functional execution in fast-moving environments
  • Must be able to work on-site full-time in Brooklyn (DUMBO).
  • This role may include travel to China to work alongside overseas team members in manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency with Altium/KiCad (or equivalent) for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Embedded and scripting development skills for prototyping and testing
  • Strong prototyping, debugging, and measurement skills
  • Working knowledge of Python and C/C++

Nice to Have

  • Experience with automated test development and scripting (Python preferred).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and lean document management workflows
  • Background in sensor integration for biological systems or other precise measurement.
  • Exposure to laboratory instrumentation, bioprocess equipment, or industrial automation systems.
  • Prior experience acting as a technical lead or senior individual contributor on hardware programs.

Why Join Us?

  • Take technical ownership of electrical architecture and design for a cutting-edge bioreactor platform.
  • Influence system architecture and testing philosophy at an early-stage, high-impact startup.
  • Work hands-on with complex, interdisciplinary hardware used by leading biomanufacturing and biopharma teams.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
