The Role

BuzzFeed, Inc. is seeking a motivated, organized, hard-working and creative Communications professional to join the team in New York or Los Angeles and lead publicity efforts for Complex and First We Feast. Additionally, the Senior Manager will be part of the BuzzFeed, Inc. communications team that supports the company, its businesses and portfolio of brands including BuzzFeed, Tasty, HuffPost, Complex, First We Feast, BuzzFeed Sales, BuzzFeed Tech, Internal Communications and more.

The role can be based in Los Angeles or New York and will report directly to BuzzFeed, Inc.’s VP of Communications, and work closely with the leadership and creative teams for Complex and First We Feast, and the broader BuzzFeed, Inc. communications team. The role will begin July 2023.

The Senior Manager will lead and develop the communications strategy to extend the reach and impact of Complex and First We Feast brands, content, experiential events, talent and creators, in addition to supporting internal communications and employee culture. This role will lead all public relations, develop messaging and briefs, and maintain strong media relationships. We are looking for an experienced communications professional with drive and positivity, who can communicate effectively, write engaging materials, execute ideas quickly and develop strategic goals with stakeholders.

The candidate should be someone who is inspired by the Complex and First We Feast’s brands and content, has a passion for music, entertainment, pop culture, food culture, and style, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You Will:

  • Lead all Communications for Complex, First We Feast including both external and internal communications, media relations, experiential events, and internal communications and culture
  • Support broader communications team when applicable on company-wide projects including corporate events, business strategy, global all hands and internal communications
  • Research and coordinate external speaking engagements
  • Write press materials including pitches, press releases and messaging points
  • Establish and maintain strong media relationships across a variety of beats
  • Identify and help amplify BuzzFeed content and products
  • Support various internal communications programs
  • Build out press lists around various projects and topics, and manage existing press lists
  • Create and execute award submissions

You Have:

  • 7-9 years of previous experience in media, entertainment, tech, digital or communications
  • A deep understanding of the media, advertising and digital landscape, and strong relationships with press from broadcast, online, print, podcast and beyond.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills across mediums (internal/external comms; email/slack/video; formal/informal writing)
  • Strong work ethic, creativity and collaboration
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills are necessary to succeed in this position
  • Extensive experience working hands-on with media along with the ability to create press opportunities -- a creative attitude is key
  • Resourceful self-starter who can adapt quickly and manage tasks from multiple stakeholders and priorities
  • A passion for the Complex brand, music, pop culture, style and sports
