What does the Marketing department look like?

The Senior SEO Specialist will join a small and mighty group of experienced folks leading diverse parts of our growth initiatives - ranging from acquisition all the way through to retention and expansion. We have subject matter experts across a variety of domains, including CRO and content, to Paid, Lifecycle, and Product Marketing. The team is highly collaborative and action-oriented, elevating each other and our collective work every single day. As a team, our ultimate goal is to deliver poignant stories and captivating experiences to small business owners to help fuel their success.

What’s the role of a Senior Search Engine Optimization Specialist?

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Growth Marketing, you will be responsible for leading the SEO strategy for our entire web presence, including our main site and blog. Your key responsibility will be to enhance our organic search positioning and drive strategic growth through sophisticated content strategies and comprehensive site optimizations. You will be pivotal in broadening our reach and ensuring that our content serves as a credible resource to empower business owners.

With extensive experience in the SEO field, you are expected to come in with a strategic vision and the ability to translate complex insights into actionable, growth-oriented plans. Within your first year, you aim to significantly increase our domain authority, double our content-driven inbound traffic, significantly add to our keyword and backlink portfolio, and enhance user engagement across our digital platforms.

What you’ll get up to:

  • Lead the strategy and execution of on-page optimization to improve our search engine rankings and user engagement
  • Deliver detailed SEO performance reports to stakeholders, highlighting successes, and optimize strategies continuously
  • Mentor team members and lead SEO training sessions to embed best practices across the company
  • Design and implement advanced link-building strategies to enhance referral traffic and elevate our domain authority beyond current benchmarks
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing teams to overhaul the core web vital performance for our entire web estate
  • Strategize with the content team to ensure SEO best practices are embedded within all published content, aligning with Bench’s tone and voice
  • Spearhead the research and adoption of cutting-edge SEO tools and methodologies to maintain our competitive advantage
  • Work closely with the content marketing team on keyword strategies and research to assist with building out and executing the content calendar
  • Conduct comprehensive audits and continuous improvements of our site's SEO health, including updating links, content freshness, and pruning
  • Improve our internal link hierarchy from the blog to our main service pages
  • Analyze visitor behavior to make recommendations for improving on-site metrics
  • Perform regular internal linking audits, site health audits, and implement changes
  • Build landing pages in our content management system, as well as support our programmatic SEO efforts
  • Stay up to date with the latest SEO & digital marketing trends and best practices

What you'll need:

  • Minimum 7 years of SEO experience
  • Proven track record in leading successful SEO campaigns including but not limited to link building, on-page optimization, technical SEO site improvements, content optimization, and more
  • Past work that demonstrates SEO expertise, creativity, and problem-solving ability
  • Solid understanding of performance marketing, conversion, and online customer acquisition
  • Demonstrated ability to write engaging content with a customer-centric focus (bonus points if you’re familiar with small business and accounting)
  • Advanced knowledge of current SEO tools and platforms, including but not limited to Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, and SurferSEO
  • A strong understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking methods, and AI
  • Understanding of semantic SEO, and broad concepts like topical authority, entities, attributes and practical optimization.
  • Working knowledge of basic coding languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Proficient in schema markup generation, application and validation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders
  • Confidence and aptitude in analyzing high volumes of data on a daily basis
  • Experience with testing, analyzing, and iterating on results
  • A results-oriented working style and previous experience being measured against personal or team performance metrics
  • The ability to self-manage your work to stay aligned with the team’s goals
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or an outstanding portfolio of work

What you'll get:

  • At Bench we share information freely and openly whenever possible. The salary range for this role is $70,880 - $88,600 per year, depending on experience.

  • Regardless of how many days you decide to visit the office, you’ll have access to our Home Office Setup Fund to ensure that you have everything you need to work comfortably from home, from day one.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work from somewhere other than your home province for up to 90 days in a 12-month period.
