We acknowledge that Bench is founded on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Businesses need to understand their financial performance, but for many smaller ones, this means a trade-off between managing their books and running their businesses.

Our mission is to help every business owner thrive, by providing financial insight and peace of mind in one seamless platform. From creatives to chiropractors, Bench helps thousands of small business owners and entrepreneurs master their financial lives. Because understanding your finances should be three things: simple, effortless, and affordable.

We’re growing fast, and we’re looking for exceptional people to join us on this incredible journey. Check out our culture guide to learn more about what it’s like to work at Bench and read more about our business here!

We have subject matter experts across a variety of domains, including SEO and content, to Paid, Lifecycle, and Product Marketing. The team is highly collaborative and action-oriented, elevating each other and our collective work every single day. As a team, our ultimate goal is to deliver poignant stories and captivating experiences to small business owners to help fuel their success.

What’s the role of a Senior Brand Designer?

As our Senior Brand Designer, you'll spearhead the transformation of our message into impactful assets that we share with small business owners. Working across mediums, you’ll collaborate with teams on diverse projects. Throughout your efforts, you will contribute to the development of a unified brand vision that best reflects the brand we are and connects with the audience we serve. As a key member of the marketing team, you’ll work closely with Growth, Lifecycle, and Product Marketing teams to delight, attract, and ultimately drive impact for the business through compelling visual experiences. As a one-person show, you’ll ruthlessly prioritize projects, find efficiencies and advocate on behalf of the brand design craft at Bench–and you’ll have additional resources to support you alongside your work. You’ll report directly to the Head of Marketing, and will also build close relationships with the Product Design team and be invited to join their meetings for brainstorming, idea-sharing, coaching and ongoing collaboration.

What you’ll get up to:

  • You’ll start with established brand guidelines to develop visual applications for projects and campaigns, and over time will contribute to the evolution of our visual identity by exploring unique ideas, approaches, methods, and solutions that more effectively connect our target consumers with the suite of products we offer
  • You’ll create compelling static and motion visual assets across web, paid, social, and email - hitting all phases of the customer journey from acquisition to the very end of the customer lifecycle.
  • You’ll define ways of communicating complex financial topics with simplicity and creativity, making them easy and intuitive for Bench’s target audience to understand
  • Partner closely with marketing team members to ensure a close tie between creative briefs and the final product. You’ll explain your creative concepts and design systems to stakeholders at all levels.
  • You'll operate within established brand guidelines to develop graphic styles and visual applications for projects and campaigns. You will also seek out opportunities to elevate digital experiences for our target audience.
  • You’ll embrace the feedback loop; proactively meeting with stakeholders throughout the project, capturing and integrating feedback, while continuing to harness your edge as the creative subject matter expert.
  • Where appropriate, define and build templates to support business units at scale

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:

  • 5+ years of professional brand design experience, either in house, at agencies, or both. Bonus points for experience working in SaaS
  • A high level of expertise in Figma, Sketch, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A resourceful and fearless approach to your work. You default to action and are unafraid to take risks in the spirit of driving results and change.
  • A strong and diverse set of digital design skills, ranging from Web design, to static and motion graphics.
  • The ability to tell a story with ease: Internally, you’re able to think conceptually, and to communicate complex ideas with ease. Externally, you understand how the layout of a page or an asset can make a story shine to the target audience
  • Experience designing for channels across the consumer journey, from top of funnel (paid advertising, social) to client marketing (email, etc.).
  • Ability to proactively prioritize, manage and complete multiple projects within time constraints and with strong attention to detail. You’re able to work on and deliver multiple high quality projects in tandem
  • A positive, go-getter attitude; a passion for storytelling and helping build a growing brand.
  • Experience working with and guiding freelancers to expand the breadth and speed of work alongside you

It could be an even better fit if you have:

  • Video production experience, including storyboarding and editing
  • Experience using Webflow
  • Experience designing for and/or working with small businesses

What you'll get:

  • At Bench, we share information freely and openly whenever possible. The salary range for this role is $70,880 - $106,320 per year, depending on experience.
  • In addition, we offer an extended benefits package that includes paid vacation, paid flex days, stock options, and full health, dental, and vision.
  • You’ll get access to Inkblot Therapy’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EAP) that offers counseling and support, for you and family members, as well as professional development coaching, financial advice, legal advice and much more.
  • Bench has a number of Affinity Groups - groups of people who have shared identities and experiences! The purpose of these groups is to support underrepresented Benchmates and amplify their voices.
  • If you live in BC’s Lower Mainland, you have the opportunity to work at home or in our downtown office location, depending on your preference! If you’re interested in remote only, we currently focus our hiring efforts in the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
  • We provide solutions to bring all teams together for collaboration and connection.
  • Regardless of how many days you decide to visit the office, you’ll have access to our Home Office Setup Fund to ensure that you have everything you need to work comfortably from home, from day one.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work from somewhere other than your home province for up to 90 days in a 12-month period.

Everyone has their own unique talents. Even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role in your application.

We believe that unchecked biases disproportionately impact the most marginalized people in society—including but not limited to BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+ people, immigrants, and people with disabilities. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or other marginalized communities because we believe that without you, we are all less. If you are selected for an interview and require support during the process, including disability accommodation, we'll give you the opportunity to tell us when we contact you.
